The Reader

The Reader was directed by Stephen Daldry and the star cast includes Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes. It is a romantic drama set in post-war Germany. It's a passionate love story of a young boy who is physically involved with a woman twice his age.

The plot is set in Berlin, where a 15 year old lad, Michael, gets down the tram as he feels uneasy. He pukes near the gate of an apartment, to be helped by a lady, twice his age. The lady, Hanna, comforts him and it is discovered that the boy is suffering from scarlet fever. After three months, he returns to show his gratitude to Hanna for her kindness, with flowers but the things take a turn and they end up sleeping together. This continues for a while because they both enjoy each other's company. Michael used to read out the stories to Hanna and she would love listening to them. One fine day, Hanna disappears and Michael is left disappointed and lonely.

They meet after several years, only to confront each other in a courtroom. Hanna is found guilty of a crime that she has not committed. Michael, knowing the truth, must now decide whether he wants to help her out or allow her to suffer the atrocities of being a criminal, as revenge.

The Reader was released in 2009 by Eagle Home Entertainment in blu-ray format. It's an A rated movie and and the total duration of the film is 540 minutes.
